Chukyo High school participated in a project called “hukunotikara project”.The project is held by UNIQLO and UNHCR. They are collecting clothes and sending them to refugee camps around the world.
What We Learned from the Lecture
In June, a Uniqlo employee visited our school to give a lecture. During the lecture, he showed us pictures and videos of refugee camps and explained how difficult life is without proper clothing. We learned that a lot of people around the world are refugees. And they need clothes to protect themselves and to live. And we realized that clothes are not just for fashion, it is also a tool that protects people’s lives safely every day.
Our Actions After the Lecture
After the lecture, we started taking action to collect clothes under the leadership. We put posters around the school and made an announcement to ask everyone for their cooperation. Next, we are planning to ask a nearby kindergarten to collect clothing.
By August,a large amount of clothing had been collected in the collection boxes placed around the school. During summer vacation, we met up at school, and separated the clothes by size and season, folded them neatly, and packed them into boxes. It was hard work, but we felt proud of our actions.
In November, the collected clothes are going to be sent to a special warehouse and then delivered to refugee camps around the world through UNHCR.
Connection to the SDGs
This activity has also a connection to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. For example, it aligns with goals such as “No Poverty,” “No Inequality,” and “Responsible Consumption and Production.”In Japan, a large number of usable clothes are discarded every year. Through this activity, we hope people to learn that recycling and reusing are good both the earth and people.
In January 2026, a report will be coming to our school compiled with some picture of refugees who received the clothes we sent. Two years ago I did this activity, I was very happy because I was thinking that sorting clothes was really helpful to someone.
My Final Message
This project might seem small but it has power to help people around the world. At Chukyo High School, we will continue to learn through such activities, aiming for a kind and peaceful future. I hope that other schools will also participate in this project. If more schools participate, we can collect more clothes. And I think we can bring more happiness around the world.
Thank you!!!
