Ten People Ten Colors -Meet the Unique Costumes of Chukyo High’s Festival-

Written By Nana Ozeki

On September 25 and 26, 2025, Chukyo High School hosted the school festival 2025! One of the highlights of the event is the students’ unique and creative costumes! In this article, I’ll introduce of eight the most impressive costumes I came across!

Fairy

This fairy costume, with its sparkling crown and color-changing wings, looked like something out of a fantasy story.

Creative Points:

  • Wanted the wings to sparkle in different colors
  • Used aurora material so the wings change color depending on the angle of the light

Fairies are mythical beings from folklore, often associated with nature and magic, known for their beauty and gentle powers.

Joker

Wearing black pants and a tie, along with a chilling grin, they looked just like the Joker!
The realistic scars and smudged lipstick gave them a cool, movie-like vibe.

Creative Points:

  • Spent the most time perfecting the face paint
  • Used makeup bought from Don Quijote

The Joker is Batman’s most famous enemy in DC Comics, known for his wild and chaotic personality.

Arale-chan (From “Dr. Slump”)

Dressed in a school-uniform-inspired version of Arale-chan’s outfit, with a red cap, a skirt in a different color, and loose socks, they put own twist on the playful character!

Creative Points:

  • Transformed Arale’s outfit into a school-uniform style
  • Wore a cap, a color-different skirt, and loose socks for a unique twist

Arale Norimaki is the main character from the manga and anime “Dr. Slump,” which was first published in the 1980s. Even today, she remains a beloved character, known for her mischievous, energetic, and super-strong personality.

Horse racing

There were two boys who dressed up in a horse-riding costume. They told me that in stead of choosing a common theme, they wanted be something new that no one else would think of.

Creative points:

・One student played the “rider,” while the other became the “horse,” by using brown tights
・Since they belong to the athlete course, their impressive muscles really made them look like a real horse!

In my opinion, it was the most unique costume in this year!

Princess Aurora, Cinderella

These two students dressed up as Princess Aurora and Cinderella, bringing a fairytale atmosphere to the festival.

Creative points

• They used corset-style tops to give the outfits a more realistic princess silhouette.
• They added gloves to enhance the elegant and graceful look.
• Their matching tiaras added just the right sparkle to complete the princess image.

Not only their costumes, but also their wonderful personalities made their beauty stand out even more.

Japanese Otaku

A group of boys dressed up as classic “Japanese otaku” characters, adding a fun and humorous atmosphere to the festival. Their performance was energetic and full of personality.

Creative Points
• They coordinated their outfits with matching check-pattern shirts and jeans to create a unified look.
• Bandanas and glasses were added to emphasize the “otaku” character style.
• They even changed the way they talked, intentionally using exaggerated, nerdy speech to fully express the role.

Even when we interviewed them, they continued to act in character, which showed just how committed they were.

Kokin-chan, Shokupan-man, Anpanman

Three male students dressed up as Anpanman, Shokupanman, and Kokin-chan.Their colorful costumes made them recognizable and fun to watch.

Creative Points
• They handmade their shoes by painting bath-cleaning slippers, adding a unique, handmade charm to the costumes.
• The character heads and face designs were carefully painted, showcasing their artistic skill and attention to detail.
• Anpanman’s belt was designed to be functional, allowing small items like wallets to be tucked in, adding both creativity and practicality.

Chihiro, Yoko-Children, HUNTER×HUNTER

Five male students dressed up as a character from Spirited Away, Yoko-Children(fashion influencer), and characters of Hunter x Hunter. Their group brought a lively and entertaining atmosphere.

Creative Points
• One member carried an orange juice bottle to fit the character of Tonpa Zoldyck, adding a clever and humorous touch.
• The student who portrayed Chrollo gathered all of his costume pieces from items he already had at home, showing resourcefulness and creativity.

Their ability to express each character so well made their performance not only fun to look at, but also memorable and full of personality.

Final thoughts

I saw a lot of unique costumes at the school festival this year! And they were all amazing. I’ll be graduating next March, but I hope to visit the school festival again next year. I can’t wait to see all the creative and unique costumes that make the event so special every time!!
