During lunchtime, some students sit on the wooden deck, enjoying their meals while talking and laughing with friends. The calm view makes many say it’s even better than eating in the classroom.

Sometimes, birds visit the garden, and they even make nests in the trees to raise their baby birds. It’s a place full of small lives.
In the Pond

In the pond, there are many koi fish swimming. Now, there are about 30 koi fish living in the pond. There are many colorful koi, so it’s fun to watch them.

A turtle also lives there, resting quietly on the rocks.Actually, there used to be two turtles living in the pond at Chukyo. But a long time ago, one of them escaped from the pond and was never found. Now, only one turtle remains. Many students enjoy watching it and even give it different names.

There is also a little path in the garden. When you walk through it, you feel like you are in a park in the city. The sounds of water, the soft wind, and the sunlight make the whole place feel like a dream. There is also a small hut. Sometimes, students give food to the fish.

Interview To Mr.Hirokazu
I talked to Mr. Hirokazu Itou, the man who takes care of the garden. He has worked here for 45 years. He is very kind and friendly to students. His hobbies are gardening and keeping tropical fish. He is also taking care of the tropical fish in the central building of Chukyo. He works from 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. , and after that , he goes to teach at a soroban school.

He told me a fun story:
the koi fish in the pond were bought by him. He brought them and put them into the pond. Also, all the flowers in the garden were planted by him. He chose the flowers because he likes them. His charm point is the dragonfly decoration on his straw hat! He says it’s for keeping away bad luck, but it also looks really cute!
