Chukyo’s unique teachers

Written By Miki Matsubara

Have you ever thought about ranking your teachers, not based on grades, but on their personalities?

At our school, every teacher has a unique character that makes them stand out.

Some are hilarious, some are incredibly smart, and some are just so easy to talk to.

In this article, I’d like to share our personal ranking of the funniest, the smartest, and the most open-minded teachers.

Funniest teachers

1. Mr. Mugishima

He is our logical expression and HR teacher.

He often shares detailed stories about childhood, which are both surprising and entertaining.

As a child, he was a extremely curious and full of energy.

Whenever he had an idea, he would try it immediately without hesitation.

His stories are always full of humor, and students look forward to hearing them.

His cheerful and open personality makes every class enjoyable.

2. Mr. GB

He is our English communication ALT teacher.

He’s from Philippines and always brings laughter to the classroom with his unique jokes.

One of the most popular stories among students is that he believes he looked like Jungkook from BTS when he was a child.

This confident and playful joke never fails to make everyone laugh, and his fun-loving attitude is contagious.

3. Mr. Hata

He is our biology teacher. He co-teaches the class with another ALT, Mr. Kendall.

Although he is science teacher, he has strong English skills, which sometimes lead to friendly “battles” Ms. Kendall during class.

Their humorous exchanges and light-hearted debates biology lessons surprisingly fun and memorable.

Smartest teachers

1. Mr. Tokunaga

He holds a PhD and teaches as a professor at a university, while also working at our high school.

He has conducted in-depth research on classical Japanese grammar, especially “kakarimusubi”.

His unique ways of thinking and fascinating stories from his university life make his classes both intellectually stimulating and highly enjoyable.

Students admire not only his knowledge but also his engaging personality.

2. Ms. Miyajima

She is our social study teacher.

Her lessons often include deep discussions about politics and history, and she explains everything in a fun and detailed way.

Students are always amazed by how she seems to know the answer to any question.

Her wide range of knowledge and clam confidence make her an unforgettable teacher.

3. Ms. Ichikawa, Mr. Hata, Ms. Tate

First, Ms. Ichikawa is an English communication teacher.

She is an expert in English grammar and patiently explains it until every student understands.

Mr. Hata, who appeared in the funniest category, is impressive because he excels in both science and English.

Ms. Tate, our former math teacher, is not only skilled at explaining difficult math problems but also very approachable and cheerful.

Personality, I love the way he laugh_it’s unique and always brightens the classroom.

Open mind

1. Mr. Mugishima

As our kind and understanding homeroom teacher, he is very popular among students.

One reason for this may be that is relatively close in age to us compared to other teachers, which helps him build stronger connections with students.

He often shares unique and personal stories, and he always takes each student’s future seriously, offering thoughtful advice during career counseling.

I admire how he treats serious topics with care and also fully enjoys fun moments with students.

2. Mr. Yamashita, Mr. GB, Mr. Hori

Mr. Yamashita taught public affairs in our first year and also coaches the school’s baseball team.

He is from Osaka and brings a bright, passionate energy to his students.

And his classes are really easy to understand, so I really like his classes.

Mr. GB our English ALT, is known for being friendly and interactive.

His lessons are student- centered and relaxed, making it easy for everyone to participate.

Mr. Hori is our first-year P.E. teacher, is famous for being teased about having had a Helicobacter pylori infection.

This story became a running joke in our class.

He is fun, approachable, and even gives advice on personal topics like love, which makes him very popular.

Conclusion

Through this survey, I realized how lucky we are to have such unique and inspiring teachers.

Each of them has a different strength-some makes us laugh, some make us think deeply, and some makes us feel understood and supported.

These teachers are more than just educators; they are role models who shapes the way we grow as students and as people.

I’m grateful for all the moments they’ve shared with us, and I hope to carry their lessons and kindness with me as I move forward in life.
